Sarah Despres

Sarah Despres directs government relations for the health programs of the Pew Charitable Trusts. Her portfolio includes projects on food safety; childhood nutrition; antibiotic resistance;prescription drug abuse; drug safety;  medical device safety and innovation;  improving end of life care;  and managing specialty drug costs.  As the director of government relations for the health portfolio Sarah helps develop policy solutions to public health problems as well as designs and implements advocacy strategies to advance meaningful policy change.  She works extensively with outside partners to advocate to Congress and the Administration.  And she identifies opportunities to further Pew’s policy agenda. Sarah came to Pew in February, 2011 after 14 years on Capitol Hill working on the House Government Reform Committee and the House Energy in Commerce committee, where she specialized in public health policy, with a particular focus on immunization policy.  Sarah is a lawyer by training.  She served on HHS’s National Vaccine Advisory Committee from 2012-2017, and is a current member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices influenza working group as well as the board of Every Child By Two, an immunization advocacy and education non-profit organization.
